Hluhluwe River Lodge is a small 24 bed hideaway close to the famous Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park and the coastal marine reserves of the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park. Great comfort, friendly staff, excellent food and lots of exciting activities make this the ideal choice for travelers exploring this diverse and beautiful region.
The central living area of the lodge incorporates a lounge, dining room and bar which encircle a delightful garden and expansive terrace which has a splendid 180 degree view of the Hluhluwe river floodplain. The rooms are spread about a rambling indigenous forested garden and there is a swimming pool in a secluded spot away from main guest area. Your hosts at the lodge are Jurie Van Riel and a dedicated team of fieldguides who will escort you on game drives and a variety of other adventures on offer at the lodge. Lodge 'foodie' Nadine and her team of chefs will ensure that you are well fed with a variety fresh fruit and interesting hot breakfast choices to kickstart your day. After a midday siesta a light lunch is served just before you depart on your afternoon safari or adventure. Dinners are an ala carte affair with a set starter and a choice of main dishes with a local flavour ranging from fish and poultry to a variety of delicious meats including our speciality venison. Vegetarians and guests with special dietary requirements can specify their needs on or prior to arrival. Dinners are served under the stars in our outside 'isibaya' area when weather conditions permit or on the main lodge terrace, the cosy dining room is the obvious indoor alternative if 'al fresco'
( our favurite ) is not an option. Jurie is our local wine guru and will be glad to reccomend a choice from his extensive list of wines personally chosen from a variety of interesting and alternative South African wine estates.The atmosphere at the lodge is friendly and relaxed with a home from home approach to hospitality. Our variety of adventures are designed to offer guests a wide choice of activities wether they are active adventure seekers or the relaxed naturalist type content with wildlife, birds and scenery.

Accommodation
There is a main lodge, which includes a dining room, bar lounge, and formal lounge all set around an open terrace, which commands a lovely view of Lake St Lucia and the Hluhluwe River floodplain. Dinner is served in the dining room or if weather permits it outside in the ‘isibaya’ or on the terrace. Breakfasts are predominantly served on the outside terrace every morning.
Hluhluwe River Lodge is a comfortable lodge with only 12 chalets sleeping a maximum of 28 guests at any one time. There is a choice of accommodations namely our 8 twin standard chalets, 2 family chalets and 2 luxury chalets.
Standard chalet description
Thatched A frame style chalet with deck. The bathroom is made up of an en suite shower and separate toilet, a vanity unit with one basin, a large mirror and shaver plug. The chalet is equipped with a mini bar and tea and coffee facility. There is a comfortable wing back chair, a writing desk, two suitcase racks, clothes cupboard, telephone, digital safe and an air conditioner.
Family chalet description
Thatched A frame style chalet with deck. The bathroom is made up of an en suite shower and separate toilet, a vanity unit with two basins, a large mirror and shaver plug. The chalet is equipped with a mini bar and tea and coffee facility. There are two comfortable cane chairs, a writing desk, a large suitcase rack, clothes cupboard, telephone, digital safe and an air conditioner. The chalet is open plan with two three quarter beds allowing for a double or twin arrangement and then two single beds which can be screened off with curtains if required.
Luxury chalet description
Thatched A frame style chalet with an expansive deck area, chairs and coffee table. The bathroom is made up of an en suite shower and separate toilet, a vanity unit with two basins, a large mirror and shaver plug. A victorian bath is just off the main room area and looks out into the forest. The King size bed is draped with a romantic mosquito net. The chalet is equipped with a mini bar and tea and coffee facility. There are two comfortable cane chairs, a writing desk, a large suitcase rack, clothes cupboard, telephone, digital safe and an air-conditioner
